01Dom Luís I BridgeCross the upper deck to Vila Nova de Gaia for a view back over Porto. Return along the lower deck and take a walk through Ribeira. Technically, you’ve visited two cities. A productive afternoon.02Porto CathedralStart with the cathedral and the views from the square outside. A good place to pause before Porto introduces you to another hill.03Livraria LelloA bookshop with an interior that makes everyone reach for their camera. Plan ahead for tickets. Feels a little like Harry Potter? We thought so too.04Clérigos Tower & ChurchBaroque details in the church, city views from the tower. The climb counts as exercise. We’re counting it, anyway.05Crystal Palace GardensGreen paths, peacocks and views over the river. Bring something for a picnic and leave a little room in your schedule for doing absolutely nothing.06Igreja do CarmoGo for the azulejos, then look for the remarkably narrow house tucked between the two churches. Easy to miss if you’re only looking up.07São Bento StationPortuguese history told in tiles.08MatosinhosFish, fish and more fish. Head here for seafood restaurants and a long lunch.09The oceanOur favourite. Rocks, waves and plenty of Atlantic air. Bring an extra layer or a blanket — the wind rarely takes a day off.
